Alexandra's Story

I’m Alexandra Chong, founder and CEO of JACANA.

I was born and raised in Jamaica, surrounded by the sights, sounds, and
remedies of the island. I still remember the way my grandmother would reach for bush teas or local plants before anything else. That deep-rooted belief that nature knows best stayed with me long after I left home.

After years working in tech and living around the world, I felt a strong pull back to Jamaica. I wanted to reconnect with the land that raised me, and to create something meaningful. That’s how JACANA was born, from a desire to share Jamaica’s botanical richness with the world in a way that felt honest, responsible, and beautiful.

Alongside my husband, Jack, we built JACANA from the ground up, starting with our own 100-acre organic farm in the
mountains of St. Ann. Today, our products are grown, crafted, and bottled with care, using the same sun, soil, and water that nourished generations before us.

Before JACANA, I founded a women’s tech platform called Lulu. It sparked global conversations about safety and empowerment, and ultimately was acquired.

But JACANA is more than a brand to me, it’s a love of Jamaica, a love of the healing power of plants, and to a better, more conscious way of living.

My mission is simple: to make wellness real again. To invite people back to the roots. To let nature love them, just as it’s always loved us.

Jack's Story

I’m Jack Abel Smith, co-founder and Creative Director of JACANA, working alongside Alexandra to turn a shared vision into something deeply rooted, wildly natural, and profoundly healing.

I came to Jamaica with a heart full of respect for its land-based wisdom and a curiosity about how culture, climate, and craft intertwine with wellness. Together with Alex, I’ve helped build our 100-acre certified-organic farm, walking the land, choosing what we grow, and shaping how plants become healing rituals that travel far beyond these hills.

In designing JACANA’s visual identity, spa-experiences, and farm to bottle aesthetic, I draw from a lifetime of creativity and an insistence that beauty and integrity belong in every bottle. It’s not enough that our oils feel good; they must tell a story, that of sun, soil, community, and craft.

Before JACANA, I worked as a creative professional, shaping brands and ideas that connect on an emotional level. But this is different. With JACANA, I’m combining design, heritage, and sustainability so that our gardens, our formulations, and our spaces all invite your senses home again.

My purpose is simple: to amplify plant wisdom in ways that feel real, elegant, and alive. To build wellness that doesn’t just heal, but inspires. To make Jamaica’s botanical voice heard around the world.
