One year on

One year on
On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa changed Jamaica. Today we pause to remember what was lost, and to honour the strength of the communities that rebuilt.
When the storm passed, our team, neighbours and partners came together across St. Ann and the North Coast to bring back the basics: light, open roads, and supplies for families who needed them.
Together, we:

Which still continues today.

When Hurricane Melissa passed, we didn’t know what the coming days would hold. What we found was a community that refused to let anyone face it alone.
Our staff showed up for their neighbours while their own homes still needed repair. Volunteers worked through long, dark days without being asked. Community leaders like Dr. Kenneth Russel MP guided us to the doors where help was needed most. And our partners, GSD, Virgin Unite, answered the call with Starlinks, solar portable charging stations, hygiene packages, and a generosity that kept us going when the work felt endless.

To the over 100 people around the world who gave through our relief fund, you may never have walked these roads, but you helped reopen them. You turned the lights back on in homes you’ll never see, and you put food on tables for families who will never know your names. They felt your kindness all the same.
One year on, we carry that with us. Thank you for reminding us what community truly means.

The work isn’t finished, and neither is our commitment.
The JACANA Foundation will keep standing alongside the communities we call home.
With gratitude and one love,
The JACANA Foundation
